Not getting bank interest in Animal Crossing Wild World?

There is a cheat where you put all money in a bank account and fast forward 99 years to get interest. But for some reason it wont give me any!! I Have 51,475 bells in my account and I tryed 20 times, and i Payed of my mortage to what is wrong?????
